  • Emma Gannon and I will be in conversation at The Strand in October.

  • I had a fantastic conversation with Sam Baker about the pleasures of midlife.

  • But one thing I want to point out about articles like these is that fewer and fewer men are graduating from college, but this problem is never framed as “men losing ambition.” Rather, it’s framed as a crisis for the nation to solve together.

I’ve updated the consulting page on my website with a Calendly calendar to simplify the process of making an appointment with me for smaller projects. I’ve noticed in recent months more people have been asking to talk to me about shorter pieces of writing. I’m hopeful this will make it easier for everyone involved. Including me!

I am not always the best correspondent. I’m often working on multiple projects, against multiple deadlines, simultaneously. One way I meet those deadlines is to turn off the internet/my phone for periods of time. When I get back on and try to catch up, things inevitably fall through the cracks. The goal of this calendar is to alleviate the back-and-forth required to figure out a date and time (and fee). One of the rare occasions when tech is helpful instead of detrimental…fingers crossed.

Setting it up though, has brought to mind many of the conversations I’ve had with many of you, be it in the personal essay workshops I run, or during The Blue Hour Paris workshop. There is one concern that almost always seems to come up that I want everyone interested in writing to stop asking themselves.

Did Jessica Fletcher have a backstory? Inquiring minds want to know!
