I’m guessing many of you already know Jo Piazza. She writes the newsletter Over the Influence. She hosted the hit podcast Under the Influence about mom influencers. She co-created WILDER with me and Emily Marinoff. She’s written twelve (!!) books including last summer’s hit The Sicilian Inheritance, and this summer’s soon-to-be-hit, which published Tuesday, Everyone Is Lying To You (“Darkly entertaining . . . This delivers the goods.”).

Ten years ago this week (today, actually!) Jo and I set off on what would become a very significant cross-country road trip for both of us. We packed up her little yellow car, and very large dog Lady, and headed to San Francisco where Jo’s then-fiancé, now husband, Nick lived. On the way we stopped at two Laura Ingalls Wilder houses (early WILDER research, though we didn’t know it at the time), visited baby wolves in Deadwood, SD and stayed at a dude ranch in Wyoming. If you’ve read No One Tells You This, you already know all this because this trip makes up the final third of the book.

We dubbed it the Last Great American Road Trip, and in hindsight, I’m not entirely sure were were wrong! Looking back, it seems as though we were driving across a very different country in a very different world.

I believe this was taken in Wall Drug, SD.

Below, Jo tells us why she enjoys staring at walls, how she beats jet lag, and best way to enjoy vanilla sex.
