Lyz Lenz on morning sex, reading in bars alone, and the glory of a good bed
Welcome to What’s Up, Pussycat? Where we ask grown, self-possessed women to tell us about the various ways they access pleasure and enjoyment.
If you’re interested in participating, you can submit your own responses here for possible inclusion in upcoming Pussycat editions.
I’d be surprised if all of you aren’t already familiar with Lyz Lenz. (That said, if 2025 has taught us anything it’s not to be surprised. Make America Surprisable Again!)
For those that need a refresher, Lyz is the author of numerous books including, most recently, the 2024 New York Times bestseller This American Ex-Wife: How I Ended My Marriage and Started My Life, which just launched in the very enjoyable paperback format this week!
Lyz also has an extremely popular, and necessary, Men Yell at Me newsletter, as well as a podcast.
When Lyz interviewed me for ENJOY last year we got on the phone and basically spent 45 minutes in the sort of joyful, I recognize you and I can’t get all my words out fast enough conversation where you jump up and down while you talk. Anecdotally, I will also tell you, it’s the interview I still hear about most from readers.
I felt a similar yes this joy when I read her below Q&A. Because while yes, morning sex is great, morning Pussycat is sometimes better. Without further distraction, here’s Lyz on what future scientists won’t discover in our bones, reading in bars alone, and the glory of a good bed.

Best Beauty Advice? (Favorite Beauty Or Make-Up Essential?)
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream, sleep, and not having kids. I failed on the last one, but you should try it. Just kidding, it's sunscreen.
Best Solo Trip You've Ever Taken?
I once spent a week in Philadelphia for book research and writing. And I really only needed to be there a couple days, but I stayed and drank fireball and went on walking tours of the city. Ate so many good sandwiches and yelled about TV shows in bars with strangers. I'm going to Ireland in April and I am very excited for that trip. I imagine it will be very similar.
