Brooke Berman on her new film, being a late bloomer, and the ideal massage package in Los Angeles
Twenty-five years ago I went with a friend to a play somewhere in Williamsburg, Brooklyn or possibly the West Village…time has blurred those details a bit. What I do remember, is that the play was written by a person called Brooke Berman and it was the first time it really occurred to me that plays could speak to me and my life.
Imagine my delight, all these years later, to discover Brooke has a new film out now called Ramona at Midlife that she wrote AND directed. It’s “a dramatic comedy about a single mother and former Literary It Girl who discovers that her unflattering current reality is the subject of a hot filmmaker’s newest project.”
Many of us spend a lot time complaining about the stories we don’t see on screen, but I suspect many of you will recognize parts of yourselves in this one. You can find out right now if you choose, because it just landed on Amazon streaming. Go forth and relate.
Below, Brooke tells us about being a late-bloomer, the ideal massage package in Los Angeles, and what to jettison from your carry-on.

What's The Most Enjoyable Thing You've Done This Month?
Last night I threw a party for theater artists who remember New Georges Performathon at the bar Von on Bleecker. About 40 women showed up, my friend Diana Manalang of Little Chef Little Cafe catered, we ate red velvet cake and some delicious treat she calls "Brookie" (not after me) and drank red wine and celebrated the release of my movie, Ramona at Midlife. It was so much fun. People I hadn't seen in 30 years alongside people I just saw last week. We talked about staying connected to one another, creating new work for the stage and weathering the hard times. There was even an homage to Courtney Love. It was so much fun!
Best Beauty Advice? (Favorite Beauty Or Make-Up Essential?)
Hydrate! My skin is always better when I drink more water. But also, I'm a skincare junkie. I love it all (although I'm currently looking for a good eye cream under 60 bucks). I am also obsessed with Bobbi Brown's Jones Road. Miracle Balm is my go-to. I have it in four different shades. Full disclosure: I've never really gotten past glitter. If left to my own devices, I'd look like a 90's rave.
