What's Up, Pussycat? - 02
Dodai Stewart talks pillowcases, Dominique Devereaux, and the thrill of being the only single on a couple's trip
Welcome to What’s Up, Pussycat? Where we ask grown, self-possessed women to tell us about the various ways they access pleasure and enjoyment.
If you’re interested in participating, you can submit your own responses here for possible inclusion in upcoming Pussycat editions.
This week’s Pussycat is writer and journalist Dodai Stewart. Dodai currently works at the New York Times, where she is a writer at large on the Metro desk (sometimes she writes about rats, which if you’ve read ENJOY, or spoken to me for more than five minutes, you know is a subject of particular horror and interest to me). If you haven’t read Dodai’s recent feature about a security guard at the Met whose work is now being shown there, stop immediately and go do so.
Some of you will remember Dodai as one of the founding editors of Jezebel. Some of you might have come to her via this piece about massage and touch, which I think about approximately once a day. Some of you might just be obsessed with the photos we took when we went to AIDA the other week. Dodai contains multitudes.
Below Dodai reminds us of the importance of clean pillow cases; the supremacy of Diahann Carroll, and why traveling with strange couples can be a good decision.
Three Pleasurable Words To Describe You
Bubbly, refreshing and bright — like a gin and tonic.
What's The Most Enjoyable Thing You've Done This Month?
Two hours at a bathhouse alternating between sauna, steam, and hot tub.
Best Travel Hack?
I try to avoid traveling during American holidays.
[Ed. note: I wasn’t allowed to watch Dynasty as a kid. I was only allowed to watch the opening credits of Dallas because I loved the music, and then: BEDTIME. So I had to google Dominique Deveraux when Dodai mentioned her below, which I also encourage you to do. Were that all rabbit holes this spectacular.][This whole Q&A is riddled with “Ed. Notes” because it is so great.]
