Welcome to What’s Up, Pussycat? Where we ask grown, self-possessed women to tell us about the various ways they access pleasure and enjoyment.

If you’re interested in participating, you can submit your own responses here for possible inclusion in upcoming Pussycat editions.

For our inaugural Pussycat, we bring you Marisa Meltzer. Marisa is a writer, most recently of the New York Times bestseller Glossy: Ambition, Beauty, and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss's Glossier. She is currently at work on her forthcoming book about French It Girl, Jane Birkin. Marisa is also a friend: she is the person I would meet for distanced meals during the height of lockdown; the person with whom I exchange the most “should I buy this?” text messages; the person I have begged for years to start a beauty recommendation newsletter because I’m firmly of the belief she knows everything. And voila! She has! Soft Power. You can sign up for it here. The first edition is about renting a bath, (and I know this is a group that loves bath content). Plus, she throws a legendary holiday party.

Below Marisa tells us where she’d spend $500 enjoyably; how she would definitely not spend $100,000 (and why that’s a relief); her best solo trip; the relationship that brings her the most pleasure; and what to do about bad sex.

Three Pleasurable Words To Describe Yourself

Fun, lavish, thoughtful.

What's The Most Enjoyable Thing You've Done This Month?

Eating carrot cake in bed while watching TikTok after getting home from dinner with friends.

Best Beauty Advice? (Favorite Beauty Or Make-Up Essential?)

I swear by Erborian CC Red Correct. It's a sunscreen tinted green that neutralizes the pinkness I'm prone to and just makes me look creamy.
